A moulded glass inkwell with inscription, Persia, 9th/10th century
of cylindrical form with vertical grooves of oval form, with an everted central ring and four lug handles surrounding the opening to the well, featuring a band of Kufic calligraphy moulded on the base

Catalogue Note
This inkwell, with its cylindrical form and lug handles, is similar to one in the L.A. Mayer Memorial Institute for Islamic Art which was exhibited in Jeruaslem in 1979 (see: Hasson R., Early Islamic Glass, Jerusalem 1979, p.8, no.10). A further comparable example is illustrated in Sammlung Erwin Oppenlander, Glaser der Antike, Hamburg 1974, p.249, no.724.
