Edward Vereycken was born in Antwerp where he studied sculpture at the Academy. His work was influenced by the impressionistic technique of Rodin and the emotionalism of his fellow countryman Jef Lambeaux. Vereycken worked in Italy, America, Canada and France where he won the prestigious Prix de Rome in 1920 with his Perseus.
