DIAL: With very slight losses to the engine turned centre of the sub-dials. Minute and hour hands show some oxidation. The luminescent material has taken a homogeneous patina throughout. The 0 of 20 on the 30 minute sub-dial has been misprinted, probably at the time of production. CASE: in fair condition with scratches and scuffs throughout consistent with age and wear of the timepiece. With deeper concentric scratches to the case band next to the two chronograph pushers. Dot Over Ninety bezel insert shows signs of ageing with a partial discolouration to the exterior of the insert. The case has been lightly polished, the straight lugs retain their original shape and angles. The case-back shows some signs of polishing. The engraving is very sharp and could have been reapplied. The inside case-back is engraved 2998-6. MOVEMENT: in working order at time of cataloguing. The chronograph starts, stops and resets. Please note that the movement has not been tested for the accuracy of its timekeeping. Please note that Sotheby's does not guarantee the future working of the movement and that a service may be required at the buyer's discretion.

Catalogue Note

When the ref CK 2998 was introduced in 1959, there were many successive changes made to the case design that were distinctive to its predecessors. The black acrylic bezel was introduced as well as noticeable changes to the hands. However, there were numerous much more subtle changes to come over the four following years, which are less easily identifiable, and that might only be differentiated by the length of the hands for example, or the scale on the bezel, with each modification only defined by the number after the hyphen in the reference number inscribed on the inside of the case back.
