Oil on canvas, (295 x 372mm.), inscribed and dated lower left "Spitzberg le 24 juillet 1838", framed and glazed, a few minor repairs

Catalogue Note

A fine painting, possibly executed by the French artist Auguste Mayer. He was a part of the French Recherche Expedition of 1838-1840, whose destination was the North Atlantic and Scandinavian islands, including the Faroe Islands, Spitsbergen and Iceland.
