Condition
The canvas appears original. The canvas undulates slightly in places, most visible towards the lower left corner. There is a spot of loss towards the lower right corner, slightly obscuring the date. There is minor abrasion at the extreme edges in places. There are a small number of very fine lines of craquelure in places and evidence of an old push or knock with associated faint concentric lines of craquelure in the upper right quadrant. There are a few instances of surface matter and some light surface dust. This excepting, the work appears in very good overall condition. Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals a few areas of fluorescence and spot retouching, largely to the edges and corners of the composition. These have been very sensitively executed. The work is floated and held within a painted wooden frame. Please telephone the department on +44 (0) 207 293 6424 if you have any questions regarding the present work.
