Description

  • Height 8 1/4  in. (21 cm.)
the Medicine Buddha seated in dhyanasana on a double lotus base with a beaded edge, with his left hand holding a bowl filled with amrita, his right hand holding a myrobalan fruit, the face serene with each feature composed and natural, the elongated ears slightly flaring over the shoulders, with upturned lips, a narrow and elongated nose underscored by the gentle and sinuous contours of the eyes and eyebrows, the delineated curls of the head with a tall and prominent ushnisha crowned with a bud, the body draped with a sanghti with an incised hem cascading into folds by the feet Himalayan Art Resources item no. 13636.

Condition

In very good overall condition for an object of this type and age. With wear to gilding, surface abrasions and accretion, as visible in catalogue illustrations. A very minor dent along the base of the lower beaded edge, possibly occurring at the time of casting. Original base not intact.
