the rectangular writing box with flush fitting cover and pewter rims decorated in gold, silver, black and red hiramaki-e, takamaki-e, kinpun, hirame, kirikane gold and silver on a fundame ground with numerous different chrysanthemum flowers and leaves, almost all an individual design, the interior fitted as a writing box with inner frame supporting a slate, all on a ground of scrolling design waves in gold hiramaki-e and nashiji, fitted inner and outer wood boxes, tomobako signed and sealed Shosai
