Description

  • signed with the butterfly and inscribed imp in pencil (on the tab at lower left)
  • etching with drypoint, Kennedy's third (final) state, Glasgow's fourth (final) state, on laid paper with a WW watermark
  • sheet: 27.5 by 17cm.; 10 3/4 by 6 3/4 in.
  • Executed in 1889, there was no published edition of this work, Glasgow cites 27 impressions of this subject.

Condition

Trimmed by the artist to the platemark on two sides with narrow margins at upper and left sheet edges, leaving a signature tab below, in good condition, a very fine split supported with tissue at lower right sheet edge (measuring approx. 2cm), three very skilfully repaired tears at left sheet edge, a few inconspicuous fox marks, some very pale discoloration, framed.
