Catalogue Note

The firm of James Shoolbred and Co. was established circa 1820 in London on Tottenham Court Road, as drapers and suppliers of fabric to the furniture trade. In 1870 they began manufacturing their own furniture, employing William Batley as a designer. The company produced detailed catalogues from 1873 which aided rapid expansion. They were renowned for quality and were issued with a Royal warrant in the mid-1880s.
