Condition

These iconic and impressive gates will require professional advice on installation. They have evidence of day-to-day use, which includes changes to patination where hands have been applied and residual polish to cast relief plaques. The handles and locks are probably of a later date, from when the gates were re-fitted and this is evidenced by the off-centre positioning of one handle. The lot has one key. As described in catalogue the gates are fixed to a later frame and additional images are available, although Sotheby's recommends gallery inspection. Some minor solder repairs and generally with old marks and scratches conssitent with age and use. Weight: 385kg.
