Condition

The canvas is unlined. The canvas undulates slightly in places. There are some localised areas of craquelure in the green pigment towards upper edge, towards centre of left edge and at the centre of the painting. There is also some craquelure in the blue shape towards the left hand edge. There is also a small amount of reticulation in the green pigment in the centre of the painting. There is a faint stretcher bar mark to the upper and lower edges. There is a small scratch in the paint in the lower left quadrant. There is some frame abrasion to all four edges. There are some very minor scuffs elsewhere. There is some light surface dirt and some evidence of studio matter and detritus, including a small line of blue paint above the bone in the centre. This excepting the work appears to be in good overall condition. Inspection under ultra violet light reveals some inconsistencies in the varnish which, as a result, fluoresce. There are also some areas of retouching at the extreme edges and in the lower right corner. The work is held within a simple, painted wooden frame.
