Condition

Colour: The colours in the catalogue illustration are fairly accurate, although the tonality of the purple vase is lighter and brighter in the original. Condition: This work is in very good condition. All surface irregularities are in keeping with the artist's choice of antique materials. Close inspection reveals a few tiny media accretions and very faint rub marks in isolated places throughout.

Catalogue Note

“People think I’m interested in Chinese traditions, which isn’t true. I’m more interested in our past human behaviour and our understanding of values, and I explore this by dealing with some existing readymade concept that everybody accepts as untouchable or fixed” (Ai WeiWei in conversation with Juliet Bingham and Marko Daniel, in: ‘A Conversation between Ai Wei Wei, Juliet Bingham and Marko Daniel, 31 May and 1 June 2010, Beijing’, Exh.
