Catalogue Note

“I could deny everything that I chose to do, deny everything that I’m interested in for the sake of being an everyman, but I’m not an everyman. I’m a black woman. I can’t do anything about that, but I don’t feel like there’s a war I’m trying to depict or comment on. This isn’t about hatred or love in any particular-  it’s about all of those things, a life lived through my eyes” (Lynette Yiadom-Boakye in conversation with Naomi Beckwith, in: Naomi Beckwith, Donatien Grau and Jennifer Higgie, Lynette Yiadom-Boakye, Munich 2014, p. 111).
