Condition

Condition: The colour in the catalogue illustration is fairly accurate, although the overall tonality is much lighter and brighter in the original. Condition: This work is in very good and original condition. All surface irregularities and chips are in keeping with the artist's casting process and choice of materials. Close inspection reveals some light handling marks and some tiny media accretions in isolated places.

Catalogue Note

“I love books. I love the smell and feel of books. I don’t believe books are going to disappear and I don’t like the idea of gleaning all your information from the superhighways, sitting in a café and reading your newspaper on a screen.” Rachel Whiteread cited in: Ann Gallagher, Ed., Rachel Whiteread, La Biennale Di Venezie, British Pavilion, London 1997, p. 34.
