Catalogue Note

From 1874 unto his death, Federico Zandomeneghi lives in Paris, where he meets the Impressionist painters, mainly Edgard Degas whose influence was to be major on his art. The female figure becomes predominant in Zandomeneghi's oeuvre from 1894, a year that marks a turning point in his career: the artist signs a contract with famous French art dealer, Paul Durand-Ruel, who asks him to produce more works depicting female figures that would please the taste of a newly enriched bourgeoisie.
