Catalogue Note

Spoerri started playing with chance at the beginning of the 60s. All throughout his life, he has been a “topographer of objective chance”. Snare-pictures, “détrompe-l’oeil”, collections: Spoerri’s language revolves around the fixation of objective chance.

Today still, he remains faithful to his new realist profession of faith from 1960 and keeps surprising us: “I can feel proud of chance because I am only its humble and vain servant. Vain because I put my signature on propositions I am not even responsible for; and humble because I am only a mere performer.”
