Designed as meandering grapevines, set with oval-shaped pink topazes, accented by old mine-cut diamonds, seed pearls and gold leaves applied with green enamel, the necklace-diadem combination completed at the back with a green velvet ribbon, internal circumference 18½ inches; the earrings of similar design set with rose-cut diamonds and button pearls; circa 1870.

Condition

In good condition, with minor surface wear and discoloration to the mounting commensurate with age. Mounted in 18 karat gold and silver. The pink topaz weighing a total of approximately 27.00 carats on the necklace and 7.00 carats on the earrings; it is a slightly purplish pink color, transparent, and slightly included. The diamonds, weighing a total of approximately 4.00 carats, predominantly I-K color, SI-I clarity, the rose-cut diamonds on the earrings of decorative quality, two with significant chips, visible under close inspection. The green ribbon is elasticised, allowing for wear as a headband or bandeau. The vivid-green enamel on the necklace was likely refinished with lacquer; it is in good condition with few small areas of loss; the enamel on the earrings also with a few small areas of loss. The seed pearls on average measure approximately 2.1 mm, they are of ivory body color, with soft rose overtones, with fair skin and good luster. The button-shaped pearls on the earring surmounts measure approximately 4.3 x 3.5 mm, are of ivory body color with good skin and luster, and have not been tested for natural origin. The necklace/diadem mounting is composed of 7 detachable segments.
