Catalogue Note

The Spinner is certainly one of Friant’s strongest orientalist works. In January 1892, Friant left for his third and final trip in North Africa. Dazzled by the light and colors in Biskra, Algeria, Friant pays homage to it by renderring the figure with a high degree of realism and poetry.
