Condition

This early print, rich in detail and with a wide tonal range, is in overall good to very good condition. Original retouching of the negative and on the print is visible upon close examination, primarily in the upper portion of the image. The following are visible in raking light: a 2-inch diagonal scratch in the lower right quadrant; clusters of pin-point-sized impressions in the right figure's coat; and overall craquelure. The print is trimmed to the image and there is very occasional edge chipping. The edges of the mount are rubbed and the reverse is soiled. There are various notations in pencil and ink in unidentified hands on the reverse: 'Pile 2 [BK-32] G 73 - 1 - A - 3 1503...AMS Set #2 COPY NEG OF THIS USED FOR WITKIN' When examined under ultraviolet light, this print does not appear to fluoresce.
