Condition
These photographs are in generally excellent condition. The early print, pleasingly warm-toned and on paper with a slight sheen, displays a beautiful, wide tonal range, with luminous highlights and a high level of detail. Upon close examination in raking light, scattered deposits of original retouching and a few small scratches are visible, some of which appear to break the emulsion. The cream-colored mount is age-darkened and there are a few tiny rust-colored deposits. '2823' is written in an unidentified hand in pencil on the reverse of the mount. When examined under ultraviolet light, this early print does not appear to fluoresce. The later print, on paper with a slight sheen, is neutral in tone and shows a slightly different cropping. The highlights are less vivid and there is greater contrast. The print is mounted on white board.
