Condition

This photograph is in generally excellent condition. When examined extremely closely in high raking light, a few tiny hairline scratches that do not appear to break the emulsion are visible near the upper edge. Scattered pinpoint-sized impressions and deposits of original retouching are also visible in raking light. 'Exhibit Only - Overmat' is written in an unidentified hand in pencil on the mount. There is some very minor soiling on the reverse of the mount. There is a 'Photograph by Ansel Adams/Kenneth N. Helms Collection' stamp with number '#383' in an unidentified hand in ink on the reverse of the mount. 'Token from Anne 12/25/91' is also written in an unidentified hand in ink, as well as 'A-15' and '32' in pencil. Karen Haas's and Rebecca Senf's book, 'Ansel Adams in the Lane Collection,' publishes the most comprehensive list to date of the studio stamps and labels Adams used throughout his career. Our dating of this print is based upon the authors' assessment of the use dates of stamp 11 on the reverse of the mount: 1973 through 1977.
