Condition

The panel is uncradled, flat and stable, although a horizontal split runs across its width through the centre. This split is visible from the front, where the two halves of the panel are no longer flush on the right-hand side, and associated retouchings are also visible. The paint surface is relatively clean and the varnish relatively discoloured. Some evidence of wear is visible, for example in the blue of the Madonna's robe and the red of the hat on the ground lower centre. Inspection under ultraviolet light confirms the aforementioned retouchings, and also reveals retouchings throughout the ground, the Madonna's blue robe, the sky upper right, and the architecture upper left, as well as small scattered retouchings throughout the figures. In overall fair condition. Offered in a parcel gilt frame with small losses and old woodworm holes.
