Condition

The canvas is original. The canvas undulates slightly throughout. There are stretcher bar marks to the work at all four edges with associated craquelure with some lifting in places to the upper part of the left edge and to the centre of the lower edge. There are patterns of fine lines of reticulation to the upper third of the work with further scattered instances of fine lines of reticulation and craquelure in particular to the left edge. There is a fleck of paint loss to the centre of the extreme left edge with one or two further flecks of loss and flattened impasto tips in the lower right quadrant. There are instances of studio matter in places and light general surface dirt. Subject to the above the work appears in good overall condition. Inspection under ultra violet light reveals scattered areas of fine lines of sensitively executed retouching, in particular to the upper half with further instances elsewhere. The work is floated in a painted wooden box frame. Please telephone the department on +44 (0) 207 293 6424 if you have any questions regarding the present work.
