Description

  • Margaret Mellis
  • Aldeburgh Boats
  • stamped with Artist's stamp, titled and dated 1950 on the reverse
  • oil on canvas, unstretched
  • 16 by 26cm.; 6¼ by 10¼in.

Provenance

The Artist's Family
Andrew D'Arcy Fine Art, Bradfield, Essex, where acquired by the present owner, 14th November 2008

Condition

The canvas is not stretched and has been adhered to a mount along the length of the upper edge and in each lower corner. The canvas undulates slightly due to the method of presentation and there is some very minor craquelure, including towards the lower edge. There are a very small number of flecks of loss throughout, particularly evident along the upper, lower and right edges. There is surface dirt and studio matter throughout. Subject to the above, the work appears to be in good overall condition. Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals no obvious signs of fluorescence or retouching. The work is float mounted and held behind glass in a painted wooden frame. Please telephone the department on +44 (0) 207 293 6424 if you have any questions regarding the present work.
