Condition
The canvas appears original. There are a number of fine lines of horizontal craquelure to the canvas, indicating that the work might perhaps have been rolled at a previous stage. There is a light scratch on the left side to the blue pigment, and there are a few scuffs to the right edge in the blue pigment. There are a few tiny specks of surface dirt or very light rubbing to one or two of the slightly raised areas of impasto. There is light surface dirt and studio detritus in places. This excepting the work appears in very good overall condition. Ultraviolet light reveals two noticeable areas of fluorescence to the brown pigment in the bottom half of the composition, and some further traces to the aforementioned lines of craquelure, but the varnish to the work at times makes this difficult to read. There is a further spot of fluorescence and probable retouching to the top right hand edge in line with an old speck of loss. Housed in a dark wooden frame.
