Catalogue Note

The reference 3939 was produced from 1993 until 2009. It stands as one of the most understated complicated wristwatches produced by the firm at the end of the millennium. The classically proportioned 33 millimeter case hearkens back to the elegance of Patek Philippe's iconic Calatrava and is further complemented by a white enamel dial made by DonzĂ© in Le Locle. The watch is powered by the caliber T 27 PS, composed of 336 individual parts and incorporates two of the most coveted complications, the minute repeater and the tourbillon. The unparalleled resonance and exquisite tone of this timepiece's minute repeating chime undoubtedly appeal to the most discerning collector.  Furthermore, the gravity-defying tourbillon admired through the sapphire display back, allows the watch to achieve chronometer-like accuracy.

The reference 3939 bearing movement number 1903000 is kept in the Patek Philippe Museum and illustrated in "Patek Philippe Wristwatches," by Martin Huber and Alan Banbery, 1998 Edition, p. 330.  The present lot is numbered 1903082, closely following the original production of the reference. Indeed, the present lot in pink gold is exceptionally rare, as research indicates that approximately 35 pieces were made, and of those, fewer than ten have reappeared at auction.
