Catalogue Note

Accompanied by a Patek Philippe Extract from the Archives confirm the year of manufacture in 1948 and sale on June 9, 1948 with raised gold hour-markers. The present watch, cased in pink gold, is remarkably well preserved with sleek and well proportioned case and lugs. The case band retains a strong hallmark further attesting to its fine condition. Indeed, the ref. 565 was rarely made in pink gold or stainless steel, and additionally with a pink dial, making the present lot a desirable collector's piece.

Production of reference 565 began in 1938. As a result of its large size and water-resistant type case, it was dubbed the "Grande Calatrava Etanche" in opposition to the reference 438. The cases of the 565 were made by Taubert, a company specialized in waterproof cases since the end of the previous century. The dials were made by the renowned Stern Frères.
