Catalogue Note

For Portuguese explorers out on the open sea, timekeeping was of crucial importance and it was necessity to combine the abstract concept of time into acoustic signs. A combination of a bell and hourglass were used, the bell would be struck once every half-hour and twice every full hour to provide an audible description of time passing. The modern Portugieser minute repeater is celebrating this legacy. Activating the slide in the case band causes a strike train to sound the time out audibly in hours, quarters and minutes.

The present Portugieser minute repeating watch is simple yet understated with its beautiful classical look. It features a clean white dial with applied Arabic numerals that is the embodiment of refined lines and taste. Preserved in wonderful condition, the present watch is fresh to the market and the sound of the minute repeater remains crisp and clear.
