Catalogue Note

Over the past years, Cartier has created countless iconic watches and pulled them into great diversity of elegant yet distinctive forms - Tortue (tonneau-form), Baignoire (oval-shaped), Santos (square) and the classic Tank which just celebrated its 100th birthday in 2017 (rectangular).

According to Cartier, the first Baignoire emerged in 1912 and the official Baignoire was only introduced in 1957. It is an elegant ellipse uniquely forged in a single line, and often set firmly in the realms of jewelry. The elegantly curved case features elongated numerals that is in line with typical Cartier typography, yet it offers a new take on how to balance a oval-shaped dial.

Highly attractive and rare, the present yellow gold Baignoire is studded with diamonds, with bracelet decorated with enchanting amethyst and diamonds. The rarity of the watch is amplified due to the "convertible" folding clasp, which can be wittily removed and converted an extra link onto the watch into a bracelet.
