Condition
Overall very good condition. This rare and deeply sculptural work is executed with refined details and diverse, rich materials. The marble surface presents with scattered extremely fine surface scratches and extremely faint scattered discolorations consistent with age and gentle use. With a few occasional faint instances of circular water damage, not visually detractive. The table top with some very light and minor surface soiling concentrated to the edges beneath the scalloped decoration. The brass belt surrounding the lateral edge of the tabletop is in very good condition with some occasional very minor shallow dents and minor areas of wear and discoloration, all consistent with age and gentle use. The scalloped edge with some slightly more concentrated wear, not visually detractive. The brass candle cup with some minor wear and some oxidation beneath the two diamond-shaped cut out decorations. The candleholder presently rests on the table top (the lowest height adjustment) and may require the addition of an internal tension source for the mechanism to adjust as intended. The underside of the tabletop and the interior of the drawer retain their original red paint finish. The interior of the drawer with some scattered scratches and minor chips to the painted surface. The table base is in excellent condition. The iron is entirely hand-wrought and presents with exceptional complex decoration. The interior surface of one of the legs with the artist’s enameled mark, indicating that Samuel Yellin held this piece in his personal collection. An incredible rare masterwork by Yellin.

Catalogue Note
There were a small number of table models shown at the Samuel Yellin Metalworkers Forge throughout the years. Today, in addition to the present lot, only two other related table examples are known: one is in a private collection, and the whereabouts of the other remains unknown. This early model predates any extant accounting records (which began in 1912) or design drawings (the first of which are dated from 1913). The present table was kept by Samuel Yellin for his own collection, no doubt for its superb, complex details and rich variety of metals, which were especially rare in Yellin's early work.
