Catalogue Note

Differing from its more subtle cousin (lot ##), the dramatic side of the "spirit of Man" is captured in this vase.  Knox’s bold and generous use of strikingly rich enamel, combined with a sharper, if not edgier, style of entrelac speaks of to dynamism of the Manx spirit.  This remarkable vase does not sing sweetly, but declares itself boldly like Man’s Viking past and its heritage of independence embodied in its parliament, the Tynwald, that was founded one thousand years ago.
