Condition
This work is in very good condition overall. The canvas is loose on the stretcher bar and there is an undulation and creasing to the surface. There is scattered wear with associated pinpoint loss, visible upon close inspection. There are scattered pinpoint accretions, visible upon close inspection. There is a cracking to the figure's forehead, visible upon extremely close inspection. Under Ultraviolet light inspection there is no evidence of restoration. Framed.

Catalogue Note
The present work is from Martin Wong’s Sunset Park series, a body of work commissioned by Time Magazine. Although this painting was not included, the publication illustrated many of the works from this series alongside the cover article ‘A Christmas Story,’ from the December 30, 1985 issue. This work draws from the community and the people Wong saw every day in New York in both Sunset Park and his own neighborhood in the Lower East Side. Wong’s untitled portrait is exemplary of the contemporary, social realist style his work has become known for.
