Condition

This work is in excellent condition overall. The sheet is window matted and hinged at the reverse of the upper edge to the backing board. The edges of the sheet are deckle and there is an artist's pinhole in each corner, not visible when matted. There is a slight undulation to the sheet, visible upon close inspection. There is a faint area of stray media above the woman's right knee, visible upon close inspection. Framed under glass.

Catalogue Note

John Currin's body of work draws from encyclopedic influences ranging from Old Master paintings to pin-up models.  The subtle eroticism in 'Seated Couple' demonstrates the artist's continued exploration of beauty and lust.  The present work was included in the 2006 exhibition '100% Centennial, Collecting CFA' at Carnegie Mellon University.
