Catalogue Note

"My work often relates to history and memory. I like to explore the interrelation between them and the skills that mankind evolved over millennia of struggle. It is about my mind negotiating with the past. Our understanding of a material is related to its purpose. According to Wittgenstein, if meaning is use, material acquires its significance from the role it plays in our survival. This is what enables art to play a constructive role in our minds and in our praxes. I'm interested in understanding reason and questioning it at the same time." Ai WeiWei
