White Cube, London Acquired from the above by the present owner
Catalogue Note
"The words became a list of instructions. I create the overlaid image by collaging fragments from comic books and then scanning and enlarging it. That gives me a structure for what kind of gestures to make. If it’s a big splash then I attempt to make a big splash. If it’s a small, bubbly sound, I’m going to apply the paint differently. The collage becomes the score for the painting actions."
The work is in excellent condition overall. There is evidence of faint wear and handling along the edges and corners of the canvas. There are scattered paintbrush bristles embedded throughout the surface of the canvas, inherent to the artist's working method. Under Ultraviolet light inspection, there is no evidence of restoration. Unframed. In response to your inquiry, we are pleased to provide you with a general report of the condition of the property described above. Since we are not professional conservators or restorers, we urge you to consult with a restorer or conservator of your choice who will be better able to provide a detailed, professional report. Prospective buyers should inspect each lot to satisfy themselves as to condition and must understand that any statement made by Sotheby's is merely a subjective qualified opinion. NOTWITHSTANDING THIS REPORT OR ANY DISCUSSIONS CONCERNING CONDITION OF A LOT, ALL LOTS ARE OFFERED AND SOLD "AS IS" IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE CONDITIONS OF SALE PRINTED IN THE CATALOGUE.
