Condition
This work is in very good condition overall. There is some wear along the edges with associated thinning to the fabric. Embedded paint bristles are visible throughout, inherent to the artist's working method. There is a pinpoint spot of discoloration approximately ¾ inch from the top edge and 8 inches from the right edge. Under Ultraviolet light inspection, there is no evidence of restoration. Framed.

Catalogue Note
"From the early 1960s to the present day, Polke has preferred to use commercially produced, often pre-printed fabrics instead of straightforward canvas supports. In so doing, he paradoxically gains a freedom to explore painting itself without being dominated by the iconic status of the subject... Polke immediately establishes a relationship to something that existed before the picture." Sean Rainbird in Exh. Cat., Liverpool, Tate Gallery, Sigmar Polke: Join the Dots, pp. 12-15
