Condition

Colour: The colours in the catalogue illustration are fairly accurate although the overall tonality is brighter and more vibrant in the original. Condition: This work is in very good condition. The sheet is attached verso to the backing mount and undulates slightly. There is some discolouration to the paper, which is likely to be inherent to the artist’s choice of media and working process.

Catalogue Note

"Layers of pigment have accumulated to the point where the slippages caused by Richter’s scraping techniques result in rich marblings, like those on the endpapers of antique books, although the tactile quality is more like moving lava with trace elements of different minerals providing the attenuated elastic patterns" (Robert Storr cited in: Exh. Cat., New York, Museum of Modern Art, Gerhard Richter: 40 Years of Painting, 2002, p. 8).
