Boetti è sempre stato più vicino alla poesia che all’arte. Un poeta che nella tanto amata scrittura cerca il senso, quella raison che è rivelatrice d’intuizioni fulminanti e che proietta epifanie dalla simbolica verità. L’alfabeto è in sé potenziale creativo che con le sue infinite combinazioni sembrerebbe riassumere i segreti dell’umanità. L’artista recupera la tradizione calligrafica cinese, fondata sulla tecnica dell’inchiostro, ma rivendica il suo essere occidentale attraverso l’utilizzo della penna a biro, sostituendola al pennello.
“I cinesi dicevano che in un quadro ci deve essere la parte visiva, la calligrafia e la poesia. Nel mio lavoro questi ingredienti ci sono tutti e tre, perché un pittore deve essere anche un buon poeta. (…) la mia è una scrittura sul pensiero che va, che salta, che esalta.” (Alighiero Boetti)

Boetti’s work has always stood closer to poetry than to art. A poet who seeks meaning through his beloved writings, that raison which is revealing of life-changing epiphanies of truth. The alphabet itself is packed with creative possibility with its infinite combinations seems to sum up the secrets of humanity. The artist picks up the traditional Chinese technique of calligraphy, based on ink work, but updates its original form by using pen and biro, rather than a paintbrush.
“The Chinese say that in a work of art should contain a visual element, a calligraphic element and a poetical element. In my work all three of these ingredients are present, because a painter must also be a good poet. (…) I write about thought which comes and goes.” (Alighiero Boetti)
