Catalogue Note

Curtis Wolsey Cate, the first owner of The Thoroughbred Horse (Bluegrass), founded Cate School, a private high school in Carpinteria, California in 1910. Mr. Cate implemented a rigorous equestrian program under which each student was assigned a horse on campus to care for during their tenure at the school. The program program ran until 1943 and was intended to teach responsibility and hard work.
