the slightly flattened ovoid vessel carved in openwork and high relief with a fruiting persimmon tree emerging from rockwork, the fitted cover similarly carved and with a pointed knop, the stone with bright green and pale russet inclusions (2)

Condition

There are small losses to the extremities of the foliate carving, as well as minor abrasions and minute chips along the edges and extremities of the vessel, cover, and carving. There are two flake chips to the interior mouth rim. An old Christie's label to the side and another old label on the foot. The stone has natural fissures and inclusions. The interior has traces of carving flaws.
