Condition

The print is in good condition, with wide margins. A few tiny nicks in the left sheet edge and an occasional small, slight handling crease in the corners and in the margins. A few areas of thinner paper near the sheet edges, visible upon close inspection. (Several spots of stray ink in the margins.) The verso in good condition apart from a few spots of stray ink and some faint traces of surface soiling.

Catalogue Note

Not described by Wittrock, this extremely rare, possibly unique trial proof of L'Entraineur was printed in black before the removal of the registration marks. Ruled pencil lines connect the marks to frame the image on all four sides.
