The complete portfolio, comprising one lithograph and 22 pochoir reproductions printed in colors of gouaches painted by the artist, with text by André Breton, 1959, the lithograph signed in pencil and numbered 316/350, also signed on the justification in blue ink and red ball-point pen by the artist and author, respectively, numbered 316, from the total edition of 384, on Arches wove paper, printed by Mourlot Frères, Paris, published by Pierre Matisse, New York, contained in the original paper folders and linen-covered portfolio box (23 prints)
Condition
The portfolio is in good condition. The lithograph is in good condition, the full sheet with faint time-stain at the extreme edges. Two small, inconspicuous creases at right sheet edge at bottom and unobtrusive stray ink in the left and bottom margins. The pochoirs in good condition with strong colors. The eighth pochoir with a tiny scratch at the center of the image. The first pochoir with faint scuffing at the periphery of the image, most apparent in raking light. The ninth pochoir with two inconspicuous creases at one corner. The versos with faint uneven discoloration and several with tiny fox marks. Several versos also with adhesive or discoloration associated with prior hinging. The text pages with some additional foxing, particularly in the bottom deckle. Occasional soft-handling creases and time-stains at the extreme sheet edges of the original paper wrappers.
