Description

  • Grit Kallin-Fischer
  • Abstraction
  • gelatin silver print
with credit in pencil on the reverse, 1920s-30s

Provenance

Rudolf Kicken Galerie, Cologne, 1983

Condition

This early print, on double-weight paper with a semi-glossy surface, is in generally very good condition. At the center left of the image are several small circular, beige deposits of indeterminate nature. When examined in raking light, the following are visible: a soft linear crease which runs the width of the print along the upper edge; some scattered, matte deposits of original retouching; a few small areas of silvering in the darker parts of the image; and scattered soft handling creases which do not appear to break the emulsion. It is trimmed to the image and the edges are worn. The upper right and lower left corners are creased. 'MARGRIT FISCHER' is written in an unidentified hand in ink on the reverse and 'A.38.2825E / Kallin [crossed out in ink]-Fischer' is written in pencil. The print is tipped along the upper edge on the reverse to thick cream color paper. On the reverse of the paper mount, there is appropriate age-darkening and some tiny rust-colored deposits. The following are written in an unidentified hand in pencil: 'F0 28' (twice); 'A38.2825E / Fischer'; and '081.004.3.10.' When examined under ultraviolet light, this print does not appear to fluoresce.
