Description

  • Imogen Cunningham
  • 'Two Callas'
  • gelatin silver print

Provenance

Acquired from the photographer, 1973

Condition

This print, on semi-glossy paper, is in generally excellent condition. Faint silvering is visible in raking light at the print's edges. Also visible in raking light are scattered tiny deposits of original retouching and pinpoint-sized impressions. There is a small crease in the upper right quadrant at the edge, which does not appear to break the emulsion. The print is mounted to thick Strathmore illustration board. There are two long pieces of linen tape along the upper edge, on the front of the mount. The reverse of the mount is very faintly age-darkened along the edges. On the reverse of the mount is Cunningham's '1331 Green Street, San Francisco 9' studio label. Cunningham lived and worked out of her Green Street home between 1947 and 1976. '43-0278' is written in an unidentified hand in pencil on the reverse. When examined under ultraviolet light, this print appears to fluoresce.
