Catalogue Note
It has not been possible to identify the Lieutenant Wyld who found this pebble. In 1839, there were no recorded naval lieutenants with the surname Wyld. A Cornet John Wyld in the regular army was promoted Lieutenant in March 1839. It is more likely, however, given the situation of Arabia that Wyld served as Lieutenant in one of the various Indian armies extant at the time.
