  • Italian, Rome, early 19th century After the Antique
the base inscribed: IMP. CAES. D. ANTONINI / F.D. HADRIANI. NEP D. TRAIANI to one side, and: PAVLVS.III.P.M. / CATVAM. HENEAM. EQUESTREM / A. S.P.Q.R. ANTONINO PIO to the other side

Condition

Overall the condition of the bronze is good, with minor dirt and wear to the surface consistent with age, including dust in the crevices. There is some rubbing to the lacquer patina at the high points. There are a few minor nicks and scratches, including to the horse's chest on the proper left side. There is some warping to the metal reins. The top plate of the base has warped at one of the back corners and particularly at the front, leading to an open joint and the figural group being slightly loose but stable.
