Condition

The dish has been restored. The dish has been broken into several sections and repaired. The back and most of the front surfaces have been lacquered which makes it difficult to determine true extent of damage.

The episode on this dish shows Hannibal ordering his military commander, Maharbal, along with 500 Nubian horses, to ravage the allies of Rome, but to spare the Gauls as far as possible, and to win over their chiefs to his side.
