Writings with title-pages printed in red and black, additional engraved pictorial title on india paper mounted in each volume, engraved and photogravure frontispieces on india paper mounted, a few signed by the artists, including one each by Frederic Remington and James Montgomery Flagg; Life with photographic frontispiece and plates. Uniformly bound in contemporary three-quarter red morocco over marbled boards, spines gilt in six compartments, marbled endpapers en suite, top edges gilt, others uncut; some extremities a bit scuffed.

Catalogue Note

Autograph edition, number 113 of 350 sets signed and dated by Harte, September 1896, on the limitation page in the first volume. The first volume also has inserted an autograph letter signed by Harte ("Bret Harte"), 1 page (8 x 5 in.; 203 x 127 mm) on a bifolium of personal letterhead, London, 14 July 1880, to Harriett Stockall, thanking her for a copy of her Poems and Sonnets.
