Condition
The canvas is unlined. There is overall very good retention of the paint surface with lovely detail and coloration throughout. There is a prominent craquelure pattern throughout, however it is not overly distracting. Examination under UV light reveals several very small areas of retouching over old repaired scratches or punctures: in sky upper left, on side of dock at far left side, in architecture at right side and in sky upper right. Other areas of retouching can be seen on the tops of the gondolas at right side, in the water at lower left corner and lower center, and some in the architecture at right side. There is also some scattered inpainting of the craquelure. There is no need for further work and this painting can be hung as is.
