Set with five sugarloaf cabochon sapphires weighing a total of approximately 193.73 carats, joined by articulated segments of geometric design set with square, rectangular, round and old European-cut diamonds, length 7 inches, with French assay marks, workshop marks for Rubel Frères, and maker's marks for Van Cleef & Arpels; circa 1935.

Condition

In very good condition, with light surface wear to the mounting. Stamped with Van Cleef and Arpels maker's mark on the second diamond-set link from the female end of the clasp; with workshop marks for Rubel Frères on the tongue clasp and the mounting to the central sapphire; with French assay marks for platinum; and PT950 for platinum. The sapphires are a well matched medium to medium-deep violetish blue with minor color zoning seen on close inspection under direct light; starting from the female clasp, sapphires 1, 2, and 3 with minor finger prints. When viewed from the reverse, minor reflective silk seen in sapphires 2 and 4. The bases to sapphires 4 and 5 are faceted. All retaining a high polish with no apparent abrasions. Faint asterism is seen on the central sapphire under direct light. The 20 square-cut diamonds weighing in total approximately 5.00 carats, 10 rectangular-cut diamonds weighing in total approximately 5.00 carats and numerous round and old European-cut diamonds weighing approximately 14.00 carats; all approximately F-G color, VVS-VS clarity. Safety chain has been removed, but rings still in place on mounting to allow for one to be added.
